Vaginal bleeding other than menstruation may be caused by inflammation

What is vaginal bleeding? Some vaginal bleeding in women is physiological, such as normal menstruation, which will not harm health. Some is pathological, which needs attention.

There are many reasons for abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as ovarian endocrine dysfunction, abnormal pregnancy, tumors, reproductive tract inflammation, injury or systemic diseases. Age plays an important role in the identification of vaginal bleeding: vaginal bleeding in young girls and postmenopausal women (elderly women) is often considered malignant tumors. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (abbreviated as functional uterine bleeding) is the first consideration for vaginal bleeding in adolescent women, while pregnancy-related diseases are often considered for women of childbearing age.

Vaginal bleeding can be roughly divided into the following types:

1. Increased menstrual volume, prolonged menstrual period but normal cycle, most likely due to uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, in addition, those who have used contraceptive rings may also have increased menstrual volume;

2. Irregular vaginal bleeding during the menstrual cycle is often functional uterine bleeding. However, endometrial cancer should be ruled out first;

3. Long-term continuous vaginal bleeding is mostly caused by malignant tumors of reproductive organs, such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, etc.

4. Irregular bleeding after menopause. Women of childbearing age are more likely to have pregnancy-related diseases, such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, etc. Postmenopausal women are more likely to have malignant tumors.

5. Bleeding after sexual intercourse is mostly caused by cervical erosion, cervical polyps, cervical cancer or submucosal fibroids;

6. Vaginal bleeding with leucorrhea is often considered to be advanced cervical cancer. Endometrial cancer with infection;

7. Paroxysmal vaginal bleeding may be caused by primary fallopian tube cancer;

8. Intermenstrual bleeding occurs between two menstrual periods. It lasts for 3-4 days and is mostly ovulation bleeding when the amount of blood is very small.

9. Spotting before and after menstruation, a small amount of bloody discharge a few days before or after menstruation. This is usually due to ovarian dysfunction and may also be endometriosis.

Other forms of vaginal bleeding:

If a newborn baby girl has a small amount of vaginal bleeding soon after birth, it is mostly due to the sudden drop in estrogen after leaving the mother's body. It is caused by the shedding of the endometrium, so mothers don't need to worry too much, but they still need to go to a regular hospital for a check-up, because diseases caused by problems such as uterine development cannot be ruled out.

Vaginal bleeding in young girls should be considered as a possible cause of precocious puberty or reproductive tract malignancy. Vaginal bleeding in adolescent girls is mostly caused by anovulatory uterine bleeding.
