Can vulvar leukoplakia be cured?

Can vulvar leukoplakia be cured? Vulvar leukoplakia is caused by obstruction of vulvar subcutaneous microcirculation, metabolic dysfunction, and damage to the normal nutrient supply pathways of the vulvar skin, tissues and mucous membranes, resulting in varying degrees of lesions on the vulvar skin and mucous membranes. So, can vulvar leukoplakia be cured? Let's take a look.

If leukoplakia vulvae is neglected for treatment, it will cause great harm. In addition to local symptoms, patients will also feel upset, chest tightness or panic, shortness of breath, general weakness, loss of appetite, insomnia, back pain, chills, sexual indifference, schizophrenia, depression and other systemic symptoms. In severe cases, cancer may occur, endangering the patient's life. As long as everyone detects and treats it early, the disease can be cured.

Laser treatment: This is the use of laser to eliminate abnormal epithelial tissue, destroy nerve endings in the dermis, and block the vicious cycle caused by itching or scratching. A course of treatment lasts 10 to 15 days, and sometimes multiple courses are required to be effective.

Ultrasound treatment: There are many methods for treating vulvar leukoplakia. Patients are advised not to choose blindly, because each patient's physique and condition are different. Only the right medicine can cure faster and more thoroughly.

In the past, it was believed that vulvar leukoplakia had a 10% to 15% malignant transformation rate, and surgical excision was often recommended. However, the postoperative recurrence rate is as high as 50%, and reoperation may also cause recurrence. After surgery, scars are easily formed on the diseased vulva, leading to sexual intercourse difficulties and a decrease in the quality of sexual life. Recent studies have also found that the cancer transformation rate of this disease is actually less than 5%, so surgical treatment is not recommended to be expanded. It is recommended that surgery be limited to patients with severe conditions, atypical hyperplasia that is ineffective for drug treatment, or patients with the possibility of malignant transformation.

Since there are many treatments for vulvar leukoplakia at present, everyone must be cautious when choosing a treatment method and must go to a regular hospital for standardized diagnosis and treatment to avoid misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.
