What are the hazards of Bartholin's gland cyst?

What harm does a Bartholin's gland cyst cause? Speaking of Bartholin's gland cyst, many people may not know what it is. It is a gynecological disease. Experts say that it is mostly caused by the obstruction of the Bartholin's gland duct and the accumulation of secretions. If symptoms occur, you must pay attention to early treatment. So, what harm does a Bartholin's gland cyst cause?

First, if a woman is infected with a Bartholin's gland cyst and does not seek timely treatment, the cyst may spread posteriorly and form a perirectal abscess, and sometimes even rupture into the rectum. During palpation, a small and hard nodule may be felt, with slight tenderness. When squeezed, pus may sometimes flow out of the fistula. Sometimes the fistula closes or narrows on its own, and pus may accumulate and form an abscess again. It may also recur and not heal for a long time.

Secondly, the disease is mostly unilateral, but can also be bilateral. There may be no symptoms for a long time, and it is often discovered during a gynecological examination. The cyst grows slowly and is generally no larger than an egg. Larger cysts can cause swelling of the vulva and discomfort during sexual intercourse. Examination can reveal that the mass occupies the middle and lower 1/3 of the entire genitals, the genitals are completely flattened, and the vaginal opening is pushed to the healthy side. When Bartholin's gland cyst is infected, it can form an abscess, and repeated infection can cause the cyst to expand.

Finally, the Bartholin's glands are located at the back of the vulva majora on both sides, and the gland ducts open on the inside of the vulva minora close to the uterus of unmarried women. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical location, when the vulva is contaminated by sexual intercourse, childbirth or other situations, pathogens can easily penetrate and cause inflammation.

Since the cyst can exist for a long time and remain unchanged for many years, regular observation is not necessary for treatment. If the cyst gradually grows and affects life, or it is repeatedly infected and often forms abscesses, Bartholin gland cyst ostomy can be performed. This method is simple, has little damage, can still preserve the gland function, and give the patient a healthy body.
