What are the transmission routes of Trichomonas vaginitis?

What are the transmission routes of Trichomonas vaginitis?

For an infectious disease to spread, there must be three conditions: a source of infection, a route of transmission, and a susceptible person. For Trichomonas, anyone can be infected, and those with changes in vaginal pH or low immunity are more susceptible to infection. So what are the routes of transmission of Trichomonas vaginitis?

Very few patients can recover on their own after being infected with Trichomonas. Even if they are cured, they can be infected again. The sources of infection of trichomoniasis are those carriers and contaminated objects.

There are two transmission routes: direct transmission, i.e. sexual transmission, and indirect transmission. In foreign countries, vaginal trichomoniasis is mainly transmitted through sexual intercourse, so it is classified as a sexually transmitted disease. In my country, the transmission route is different. Due to the large population in my country, public health facilities are relatively backward compared to developed countries. Therefore, transmission in public places has also become an important transmission route. For example, if the seats in public baths or toilets in public toilets are contaminated by the secretions of carriers, then the later ones may be infected if they sit directly on the seats or toilets. The basins in public baths, swimming pools with high density and poor disinfection in summer, wearing other people's underwear, renting swimsuits, etc. may all cause the spread of trichomoniasis.

In addition, sharing of bathtubs among family members and medical cross-infection are also causes of indirect transmission of Trichomonas.

Gynecological experts suggest: The pathogen of this disease is vaginal Trichomonas. Trichomonas is a parasite, but it is invisible to the naked eye. This type of Trichomonas is pear-shaped, 10-30μm long, with 4 flagella on the head that are as long as the body of the worm. This type of Trichomonas can be clearly seen under a microscope. Trichomonas has a strong adaptability to different environments. It can grow and reproduce under conditions of 25℃-42℃, survive for 21 days at low temperatures of 3℃-5℃, and can still survive for 20-60 minutes at 46℃. After leaving the human body, it can also survive for several hours in semi-dry conditions. Trichomonas not only parasitizes in the hypoxic vagina, but also invades the urethra and paraurethral glands, and even ascends to the ureter and renal pelvis. The most suitable pH value for the growth of Trichomonas is 5.5-6. If the pH is below 5 or above 7.5, the growth of Trichomonas will be inhibited.
