What are the tests for Bartholinitis?

Bartholinitis is one of the common gynecological inflammations. It usually occurs in the reproductive period, spring and autumn, and rarely occurs in infants and young children and after menopause. Fever is common, and chills are rare. The pathogens are mostly Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus and Enterococcus, and a few are gonococci. So, what are the tests for Bartholinitis?

In the acute stage, there is local pain, redness and swelling. The pain is most severe when a Bartholin's gland abscess forms. The skin on the surface of the mass is red, thin, and the surrounding tissues are edematous. When the inflammation is severe, it may spread to the perineum and the contralateral vulva. Due to the severe pain, vaginal speculum examination is no longer possible and can be temporarily suspended if not necessary.

According to the medical history, local appearance and digital examination, it is generally not difficult to diagnose. Generally, secretions should be taken from the opening of the Bartholin's glands, the urethral orifice, and the paraurethral glands for smear examination of pathogens. If it has developed into an abscess, it is mostly a lump the size of an egg or apple, often unilateral. Sometimes it is difficult to urinate and defecate. The local tenderness is obvious, there is a sense of fluctuation, and the inguinal lymph nodes are mostly swollen. But at the same time, attention should also be paid to whether the urethral orifice and paraurethral glands are abnormal. The Bartholin's glands are located behind the labia majora on both sides, and the gland duct opens on the inner side of the labia minora near the hymen. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical site, when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth or other situations, pathogens can easily penetrate and cause inflammation. Clinical examination can reveal a red, swollen, hard lump in the lower 1/3 of the labia majora, which is obviously tender.

Laboratory tests:

1. Secretion smear and bacterial culture examination: Generally, secretions are taken from the opening of the Bartholin's glands, the urethral opening, and the paraurethral glands for smear examination to determine the pathogens; or bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test are performed directly. 2. Routine blood test: The total white blood cell count may increase significantly.

The above mainly introduces the examination method of Bartholin's glanditis. For everyone's safety and health after suffering from this disease, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital in time to diagnose the disease. Correct examination and diagnosis are the prerequisites for treatment. Finally, timely and effective treatment should be carried out after the diagnosis is confirmed.
