What causes Bartholinitis

How does Bartholinitis develop? This disease is more common in women of childbearing age. It is caused by the obstruction of the discharge of the Bartholin's gland secretions, which accumulates in the lumen and causes the gland to cystically expand. Bartholinitis is a disease that harms physical and mental health. So do you know what common factors can cause Bartholinitis?

Common factors include:

(1) The presence of chronic inflammation causes the Bartholin gland duct to be blocked, resulting in poor secretion discharge and cystic expansion of the gland, forming a cyst.

(2) After the inflammation of acute Bartholin's gland inflammation subsides, if the gland duct is still blocked and the secretions cannot be discharged, the pus is absorbed and the fluid gradually becomes clear, forming a Bartholin's gland cyst.

(3) During childbirth, lacerations of the vagina and perineum may form scars, or incorrect episiotomy may damage the Bartholin gland duct, causing blockage of the Bartholin gland duct and retention of secretions, which may also cause Bartholin gland cysts.

(4) Congenital stenosis of the Bartholin gland duct, or viscous secretions, and poor discharge of Bartholin gland fluid can also lead to cyst formation.

After Bartholin gland cysts are formed, they can persist for a long time and develop slowly. Patients generally do not feel any discomfort, but only feel that one side of the labia is swollen compared to the other side. Gynecological examination shows that the lower 1/3 of the labia majora on the affected side is swollen, cystic, without obvious tenderness, and the vaginal opening is squeezed to the healthy side.

When Bartholin gland cyst is infected, it may turn into Bartholin gland abscess. After the inflammation of abscess subsides after drug treatment, the pus may be absorbed and turned into cyst.
