Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a variety of bacterial infections. It is one of the common diseases in women of childbearing age, accounting for 1/3 of vaginal infectious diseases. It can also cause gynecological diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease. Because the vaginal mucosal congestion and inflammatory changes are not obvious when it occurs, it is called bacterial vaginosis. So, what is the scientific diagnosis method of bacterial vaginosis? There are four main points in diagnosis: 1. Homogeneous and thin vaginal discharge. 2. The pH value of vaginal secretions is ≥4.7. 3. Add 1 drop of 10% potassium hydroxide solution to vaginal secretions and you will smell a fishy odor. 4. Use a microscope to look for clue cells in vaginal secretion smears. These are epithelial cells that are shed from the vagina and have blurred edges under the microscope. Ten to fifty percent of the patient's vaginal secretions may contain such cells. |
