Why do pregnant women get candidal vaginitis?

Why do pregnant women get candidal vaginitis? Many people want to know this question. Pregnant women are very likely to get candidal vaginitis after having a baby. As for why they get candidal vaginitis, some mothers think it is because of poor hygiene. Obstetricians and gynecologists will tell expectant mothers what is going on.

There are three most common types of vaginitis: candidal vaginitis, trichomonas vaginitis, and bacterial vaginosis. So why do pregnant women get candidal vaginitis?

Because the body's resistance decreases after pregnancy, high estrogen levels during pregnancy lead to a vaginal environment with high glycogen content, which is conducive to the growth of Candida albicans (commonly known as mold). During pregnancy, the placenta develops and begins to secrete large amounts of estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen causes the body to synthesize a lot of sugar. Although this is necessary for fetal development, since there is also a lot of sugar in the vaginal epithelium, this creates good nutrition and growth conditions for the Candida albicans that parasitize there. Therefore, pregnant women are prone to candidal vaginitis. Molds multiply rapidly during pregnancy, and the disease is also caused by the fact that a large amount of estrogen can directly stimulate the growth of Candida albicans.

Generally speaking, no treatment is needed in the first three months of pregnancy. If it develops seriously, the doctor will use medication after three months of pregnancy as appropriate, which will not cause infection to the fetus. It can usually be cured before delivery. But sometimes there is a local infection of the eyes or mouth after the fetus is delivered. It may be caused by a small amount of Candida infection when the fetus passes through the birth canal during delivery. The doctor will treat the newborn immediately, so there is no need to worry about it.
