How to determine the type of disease based on the symptoms of patients with vulvar leukoplakia

Vulvar leukoplakia is a disease caused by vulvar malnutrition. It is clinically divided into many types. Based on the patient's clinical manifestations, it is generally possible to preliminarily determine what type of disease it is.

1. Hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia

If the patient is between 30 and 60 years old and has unbearable itching of the vulva, the pain worsens after scratching, the lesions are mostly symmetrically distributed in the labia majora, interlabial groove, clitoral hood and posterior commissure, and the lesions tend to thicken locally, resembling leather-like protrusions, with wrinkles or scales, eczema-like dark red or pink changes, mixed with clearly defined white patches, but rarely with symptoms such as atrophy and adhesion. It can generally be preliminarily determined to be hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia.

2. Lichen sclerosus vulvar leukoplakia

If the patient is under 40 years old, the vulvar itching is not too severe, the lesions are mostly in the vulvar skin, mucous membranes, perianal area and other parts, and the affected areas tend to turn white and thin, the surface is dry and easy to crack, and the elasticity is poor. The clitoris is mostly atrophic and the foreskin is adhered, and even the labia minora is flat and disappears. The skin is very thin and wrinkled, like cigarette paper, and the vaginal opening is contracted and narrow. Patients often have symptoms such as difficulty and pain in sexual intercourse. It can generally be preliminarily determined to be lichen sclerosus type vulvar leukoplakia.

3. Mixed vulvar leukoplakia

If the patient has the above-mentioned symptoms of hyperplastic and lichen sclerosus vulvar leukoplakia at the same time, and the weak white areas of the vulva and their adjacent areas are accompanied by focal skin swelling or thickening, it can generally be preliminarily determined to be mixed vulvar leukoplakia.
