Difficulty breathing during weight loss is caused by excessive exercise

People who want to lose weight often do too much exercise all at once in order to achieve the desired effect, which causes breathing difficulties. Doctors point out that dyspnea is a subjective feeling, and there will be conscious symptoms such as "I can't breathe" and "my chest is stuffy". Especially for obese people, compared with the same exercise intensity in the past, their cardiopulmonary function is much worse than before. At this time, they should reduce the intensity of exercise, rest appropriately, re-plan their exercise plan, and then proceed step by step to avoid excessive burden.

Doctors recommend that people who want to lose weight should exercise gradually to avoid breathing difficulties and discomfort.

Causes of dyspnea during exercise

Jiang Junxian, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology at Ruan General Hospital, said that when sudden and extensive exercise leads to hypermetabolism, it will increase carbon dioxide and lactic acid, increase the excitability of the respiratory center, and cause temporary exercise-induced dyspnea.

This type of dyspnea is mostly psychological and is the most common situation. In particular, obese people who want to lose weight in a short period of time and put their bodies under excessive exercise may also experience this type of dyspnea. A simple self-test method is to try running a short distance. If you feel out of breath compared to the same level of physical labor in the past, you must be careful whether this is a warning sign of deterioration in your cardiopulmonary function.

3 principles to relieve breathing difficulties

Dr. Jiang Junxian pointed out that in fact, as long as you feel uncomfortable breathing, it can be considered as difficulty breathing. In addition to aging and declining cardiopulmonary function, the causes of dyspnea include bloating caused by overeating or constipation, which may also cause the diaphragm to rise, thereby inhibiting respiratory movement and causing dyspnea.

It is recommended that to improve or relieve the symptoms of dyspnea during exercise, there are 3 principles that cannot be ignored:

  1. Take a proper rest: When you experience breathing difficulties, you must take a proper rest first, but do not sit down or lie down immediately. For example, if you suddenly feel difficulty breathing while running, you can adjust your speed first, change to fast walking or slow walking, and let your breathing gradually return to an affordable frequency.

  2. Reduce exercise intensity: People who have not exercised for a long time often have their bodies suddenly need to bear a large amount of metabolism. When they cannot bear the load, they may have difficulty breathing. It is recommended that if you want to develop exercise habits, you still need to start with light or moderate exercise to allow your muscles, heart and lungs to gradually adapt to the intensity of exercise.

  3. Replan your exercise plan: You can start with regular brisk walking, jogging for a circle, brisk walking for a circle, and about 30 minutes of aerobic exercise. However, if you are a patient with angina pectoris, it is recommended to choose walking, slow walking, hand shaking, Tai Chi, elderly gymnastics, etc., 20 to 30 minutes each time.
