Common causes of vaginitis in young children

Common causes of vaginitis in young children

Girls between the ages of 2 and 9 may also develop vaginitis, which is called preschool vaginitis. Preschool vaginitis seriously affects the child's normal life and growth, and parents need to pay attention to it. The main reasons are as follows.

1. Poor local hygiene of the vulva

Young children are young and have poor awareness of self-hygiene. If they do not pay attention to the cleanliness of the vulva, handle bowel movements improperly, or wipe the anus with contaminated paper, intestinal bacteria may invade the vagina and cause vaginitis.

2. Vaginal foreign bodies

Out of curiosity or poor safety awareness, young children may insert hairpins, safety pins or small toys into the vagina. Especially for children in rural areas who wear open-crotch pants and sit on piles of wheat or rice, wheat grains or millet may enter the vagina. Foreign objects will stay in the vagina and cause inflammation, itching, and even lead to the discharge of purulent or bloody secretions.

3. Injury-induced bleeding

Children are naughty and active, with poor safety awareness and self-protection awareness, and procedural vulvovaginal bleeding caused by trauma is relatively common.

4. Pinworm vulvovaginitis

Intestinal pinworms are transmitted into the vagina through feces, causing vaginal inflammation, mainly itching. In addition, improper feces handling and pinworm eggs contaminating the vulva of young girls through people or objects can also cause inflammation.

In addition, girls' vulva is not fully developed during childhood, their estrogen levels are low, and the vaginal epithelium is highly resistant. The vagina is close to the anus and is easily infected by bacteria, leading to inflammation, which manifests as redness, swelling, pain, itching, and purulent discharge of the vulva.
