Daily care for elderly patients with vaginitis

Daily care for elderly patients with vaginitis

Vaginitis is not a common disease among young women. Older women are prone to vaginal bacterial infection due to ovarian decline, lower estrogen levels, vaginal wall atrophy, thinning mucosa, and reduced local skin resistance. Elderly patients need to pay attention to the following matters in their daily lives to alleviate symptoms.

1. Pay attention to your diet

The digestive function of the elderly is reduced, so they should eat more soft, light, easy to digest and absorb foods. They can choose foods that nourish the spleen and kidneys, such as polished rice, glutinous rice, yam, lentils, lotus seeds, coix seeds, lilies, red dates, longan meat, chestnuts, black sesame seeds, black soybeans, clam meat, walnut kernels, animal liver, eggs, etc., which are beneficial to strengthening the body and reducing bacterial infections. At the same time, avoid eating spicy and irritating foods such as onions, ginger, garlic, and peppers to avoid inducing vaginal itching.

2. Precautions when taking medication

There are many causes of vaginitis, and the types are varied. Elderly patients have poor physical fitness. When external factors cause discomfort, they must not take medicines without authorization. This is because the bacteria that cause senile vaginitis are mostly Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus and other bacteria. Unlike women of childbearing age, candidal vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis are the most common. Therefore, the indiscriminate use of topical hormone medications can aggravate vaginal flora imbalance. Be sure to go to a regular hospital for a detailed examination and follow the doctor's advice for medication treatment.

3. Pay attention to vulva cleaning

Because the vulva skin of elderly female patients is generally dry and atrophic, do not use soap or other irritating cleaning products to clean the vulva, otherwise it will aggravate the dryness of the skin, cause itching, and damage the vulva skin. When cleaning the vulva, use warm boiled water, add a little salt or vinegar, wipe it clean with a clean special towel, and change underwear frequently.
