Typical symptoms of patients with hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia at different stages

Hyperplastic type is a common type of vulvar leukoplakia, which can be divided into the following three stages according to the patient's symptoms.

1. Stage I hyperplastic type

The main symptom of stage I hyperplastic leukoplakia is vulvar itching, which is more obvious at night and accompanied by local discomfort such as burning to varying degrees. Some patients may experience more severe itching symptoms, which often cause local redness, swelling and mild ulceration due to scratching. It should be noted that patients should try not to scratch the vulva vigorously. If necessary, external medication can be used to relieve itching to avoid unnecessary local infection.

2. Stage II hyperplasia

On the basis of the symptoms of stage I vulvar itching, patients with stage II hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia will have keratinization and hyperplasia in the lesion area, and the local color of the vulva will gradually become hypopigmented, especially on the inner side of the labia majora and labia minora, with mainly dot-like or small papule-like hypopigmented scars and a frosty white surface.

3. Stage III hyperplastic type

The keratinization of the local skin of patients with stage III hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia is more serious, and the keratin layer will fall off repeatedly. The patient's vulvar itching symptoms continue to worsen, and are often accompanied by pain. Scratching often causes vulvar redness, swelling, edema, cracking, and even severe ulceration and erosion. Although the symptoms of patients in this stage are more severe, the treatment effect is rapid. Generally speaking, about 85% of patients can basically control the symptoms within one course of treatment.
