The causes of different types of ovarian cysts are also different

Ovarian cyst is a common gynecological disease, which mainly includes the following 4 types, and their causes are different.

1. Functional cyst

Functional cysts are a common type of ovarian cysts, mostly occurring in women of childbearing age during the ovulation cycle. They are mainly caused by the accumulation of an abnormal amount of fluid in the follicles or corpus luteum, forming follicular cysts or corpus luteum cysts. Regardless of the size of the functional cysts, they will generally disappear on their own 3 months after onset, and patients do not need special treatment.

2. Hemorrhagic cyst

Hemorrhagic cysts are mainly caused by the rapid growth of follicular cysts or corpus luteum cysts, which stretch the ovarian tissue, causing it to rupture and bleed, and the blood cannot flow out and accumulates in the ovary. This type of cyst will generally disappear on its own, but it will take a long time. If the patient's physical discomfort symptoms are more obvious, medication is needed to relieve them; if the patient's pain and other symptoms are more severe, surgery is required to remove the cyst immediately.

3. Serous and mucinous epithelial cysts

Serous and mucinous epithelial cysts are mainly caused by the serous cells and mucinous cells with secretory functions being embedded in the ovaries after ovulation and continuously secreting fluid. They are a type of cyst that generally does not disappear on its own and requires surgical removal.

4. Chocolate Cyst

Chocolate cyst, also known as endometrioma, is mainly caused by the invasion of endometriosis on the ovaries, which causes the formation of a large amount of viscous brown liquid.
