TCM's understanding of the causes of ectopic pregnancy

According to the four examinations and eight principles of syndrome differentiation, Chinese medicine believes that ectopic pregnancy is a solid symptom of blood stasis in the lower abdomen, which causes pain if it is blocked. The uterus is the organ that nurtures the fetus, and the uterus is connected to the internal organs, qi and blood, and meridians through the uterine veins. Only when the qi and blood in the uterine veins flow smoothly can the embryo develop in the uterus after conception. If the qi and blood in the uterine veins are blocked, the embryo cannot reach the uterus and an ectopic pregnancy occurs. Common causes of blocked uterine veins include congenital kidney qi deficiency, Chongren qi and blood imbalance; or liver depression, qi stagnation and blood stasis, or damp heat stagnation that causes damp heat stagnation in the uterine veins, resulting in blocked uterine veins, resulting in pregnancy outside the uterus and ectopic pregnancy.

Depression or emotional problems can lead to stagnation of the liver meridian, blood stasis, and poor circulation of the uterine vessels. Damp-heat or residual blood during menstruation or after childbirth can cause sexual intercourse, which can infect the women with damp-heat or damp-toxicity. The damp-heat and toxicity can block the uterine vessels, affecting the circulation of qi and blood in the uterine vessels, leading to poor circulation of the uterine vessels. This can cause the fertilized egg to be blocked, or it can’t be transported to the uterus in time, resulting in a blockage of the fertilized mass. Although the fertilized egg is not bred in the uterus, there is pregnancy, so there is amenorrhea. Because the fertilized egg is outside the uterus, it blocks the uterine vessels, and the circulation of qi and blood is poor, there is lower abdominal pain. The fertilized egg is blocked in the uterine vessels, so a mass can be felt locally. The fertilized egg is blocked outside the uterus, and its growth is blocked, so it is restless or dies, and there is vaginal bleeding.

As the embryo grows, the blood vessels burst and blood overflows, resulting in blood accumulation in the lower abdomen. If the amount of blood loss is large, it consumes Qi and can cause Qi deficiency and blood stasis or Qi and blood collapse. If blood stasis is not dispersed and accumulates for a long time, it will cause plaques and blood stasis in the blood vessels or lower abdomen.
