Treatment of Phlegm-dampness and Blood Stasis Syndrome in Uterine Myoma

Uterine fibroids can be classified into the categories of "stone masses", "uterine bleeding" and "syndrome masses" in traditional Chinese medicine. The treatment of this disease is to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, soften and disperse the masses. The treatment should be combined with syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation. Traditional Chinese medicine divides it into many syndrome types, including qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome, cold and dampness stagnation syndrome, phlegm dampness and blood stasis syndrome, kidney deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome, damp-heat and blood stasis syndrome, etc. The medication treatment of phlegm dampness and blood stasis syndrome is as follows:

Patients present with late menstruation, scanty and unsmooth menstruation, or heavy menstrual flow with clots and thick menstrual fluid; heavy, white and sticky vaginal discharge; abdominal distension with much phlegm, obesity, lethargy and fatigue; lower abdominal distension with lumps; fat and dark purple tongue, greasy white tongue coating, and deep and slippery pulse.

The treatment should focus on resolving phlegm and dampness, promoting blood circulation and eliminating symptoms. The prescription that can be used is Kaiyu Erchen Decoction with Salvia miltiorrhiza and leech.

The prescription composition of Kaiyu Erchen Decoction includes: dried tangerine peel, Poria, Atractylodes, Cyperus, Chuanxiong, Pinellia, Citrus aurantium, Curcuma, Areca, Licorice, and Aucklandia. If the patient has poor appetite, hawthorn and chicken gizzard can be added to help digestion and eliminate symptoms; if dizziness occurs, calamus and Gastrodia can be added to eliminate dampness and clear the orifices; if the stool is loose, stir-fried coix seed and stir-fried Atractylodes can be added to strengthen the spleen and stop diarrhea; if there is a lot of leucorrhea, pumice, Arisaema, and sea cucumber can be added to resolve phlegm and stop leucorrhea; if there is too much menstrual flow, Siwu Decoction combined with Erchen Decoction can be used with Cyperus rotundus charcoal, Leonurus, Codonopsis, Atractylodes, Herba Agrimoniae, and donkey-hide gelatin beads, etc., to strengthen the spleen and resolve phlegm, and harmonize blood and stop bleeding.
