Amenorrhea refers to the phenomenon that women over the age of 18 have never had menstruation or their menstrual cycle has been interrupted for more than 3 months due to non-pregnancy factors. It is mainly divided into the following 3 types: 1. Primary amenorrhea There are mainly two types of primary amenorrhea. Women over the age of 14 who have never had menstruation and whose secondary sexual characteristics are not developed can be diagnosed with primary amenorrhea. Women over the age of 16 who have never had menstruation, regardless of whether their secondary sexual characteristics are normally developed, can be called primary amenorrhea. The causes of primary amenorrhea are mainly related to factors such as hymen occlusion, congenital absence of vagina, congenital absence of uterus, and hyperprolactinemia. 2. Secondary amenorrhea There are many factors that lead to secondary amenorrhea, such as endometrial damage, tuberculous endometritis, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary syndrome, mental trauma, malnutrition, etc. The interruption of menstruation caused by some adverse factors can be regarded as secondary amenorrhea. 3. Pathological amenorrhea Pathological amenorrhea is a type of amenorrhea caused by local lesions of the reproductive system and systemic diseases. The main causes are the following four aspects, namely systemic diseases, such as severe anemia, tuberculosis, kidney disease, diabetes, etc.; diseases of the uterus itself, such as uterine dysplasia, uterine trauma, etc.; ovarian diseases, such as ovarian dysplasia, ovarian malignant tumors, etc.; endocrine diseases, such as pituitary lesions, thyroid lesions, adrenal lesions, etc. |
