What is adnexitis

What is adnexitis

Among the female reproductive organs, the fallopian tubes and ovaries on the left and right sides of the uterus are collectively called "uterine appendages", or "appendages" for short. The fallopian tubes can be divided into the narrow part of the fallopian tube, the ampulla of the fallopian tube, and the fimbria of the fallopian tube.

Adnexitis refers to inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. However, since fallopian tube and oophoritis are often accompanied by parametrial connective tissue inflammation and pelvic peritonitis, and it is difficult to distinguish them during diagnosis, pelvic peritonitis and parametrial connective tissue inflammation are also classified as adnexitis.

Female adnexitis is often caused by the placement of intrauterine contraceptive devices, obstetric surgery infection, sexual intercourse during menstruation, childbirth or miscarriage, and the spread of inflammation. In addition, long periods of sitting and lack of activity, wearing tight pants, and unscientific cleaning of the vulva can also cause adnexitis.

Adnexitis can usually be divided into two types: acute and chronic. The symptoms of acute adnexitis are mainly acute lower abdominal pain, accompanied by fever. If acute adnexitis is not treated in time or is not treated thoroughly, it can turn into chronic adnexitis. Chronic adnexitis can cause abdominal pain of varying degrees. Chronic inflammation recurs over time, causing congestion in the pelvis, easily leading to fibrosis of connective tissue, and adhesion of pelvic organs. As a result, patients may experience symptoms such as lower abdominal distension, pain, and lumbosacral pain, accompanied by increased leucorrhea, back pain, menstrual disorders, etc., and often worsens during menstruation or after fatigue.

The treatment of adnexitis can include drug therapy, tissue therapy, physical therapy and surgical treatment, etc. In addition, traditional Chinese medicine and some traditional treatment methods can also be selected for patients with adnexitis.
