Medical treatment for ectopic pregnancy

Medical treatment for ectopic pregnancy

If an ectopic pregnancy is discovered early, surgery is generally not necessary. With proper diet, you can expect a spontaneous abortion or absorption. However, in general, the treatment of ectopic pregnancy still requires medication.

Although drug therapy is very effective in treating ectopic pregnancy, it has certain indications. Drug therapy is mainly used for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy with small lesions, gestational sac diameter less than 3.5 cm, blood chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG less than 5 micromol/L, and normal blood routine and liver and kidney functions, and no rupture of the fallopian tube, and no fertility requirements. However, it cannot be used for those who want to have children, because the killed embryos are polarized in situ, often causing blockage of the fallopian tube.

In addition to its strong indications, drug therapy for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy also has certain limitations. Among patients who receive drug therapy, about 10% of them cannot be successfully treated once and need a second treatment. A small number of patients will have fallopian tube rupture during drug treatment and need surgical treatment.

The above is an introduction to drug therapy for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy. I believe that through the introduction of this article, everyone has a deeper understanding of the treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
