How to Detect Endometriosis

How to Detect Endometriosis

Endometriosis can be diagnosed through clinical symptom analysis, imaging examinations (such as ultrasound and MRI), and surgical observation (such as laparoscopy). The specific method should be selected according to the patient's condition.

1) Symptom assessment and medical history analysis

The doctor will first make a preliminary diagnosis based on the patient's medical history and symptoms. Common symptoms include severe menstrual pain, abnormal menstruation, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, etc. The doctor will also ask about the menstrual history, family history, and specific pain characteristics, such as the duration of the pain and whether it is accompanied by pain during defecation or sexual intercourse, as a basis for further examination.

2) Imaging examination

Imaging examination is a commonly used non-invasive method, which mainly includes the following:

-Pelvic ultrasound examination: can be used to detect endometriosis cysts, etc. Transvaginal ultrasound can observe changes in pelvic organs more clearly and is suitable for early screening.

- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): Suitable for diagnosing difficult cases, especially helping to observe the distribution and size of deep lesions. It is of high value in assessing whether the lesions have invaded other tissues.

However, it should be noted that imaging examinations alone may not be able to fully confirm deep or small lesions.

3) Laparoscopy (diagnosis criteria)

Laparoscopy is considered the gold standard for diagnosis and also provides a means of treatment. By making a small hole in the abdominal wall, the camera is inserted into the abdominal cavity to directly observe the lesion, and treatment can be performed immediately when the lesion is found, such as electrocoagulation or lesion resection. This method can not only confirm the diagnosis, but also obtain pathological biopsy specimens.

The doctor may choose a comprehensive examination method based on the condition. Those with severe symptoms should seek medical attention as soon as possible and should not delay diagnosis and treatment. If you experience unbearable pain during menstruation, infertility or other discomfort, you should consult a professional gynecologist and receive a detailed examination to determine the cause and take appropriate treatment measures.
