Due to global climate anomalies, Taiwan's temperature continues to soar, and how to beat the heat and protect against the sun has become a national sport. Experts have proposed "3 melons and 2 soups", as well as "cool clothes, drink more water, and stay out of the sun" as tips to prevent heatstroke, and have called on the public to stay away from "air conditioner syndrome". At the same time, they have reminded everyone that drinking ice water cannot prevent heatstroke, but drinking more warm tea can help relieve heat and quench thirst. Xie Yinghua, deputy director and director of the family medicine department of Wan Fang Hospital, and chairman of the Asia-Pacific Association of Tourism Medicine, pointed out that generally, temperatures above 38°C are called the "dangerous temperature" of the human body. When the temperature exceeds the normal body temperature, poor sweating and affected cardiopulmonary function will occur; the temperature reaching 39°C is the "devil's temperature", which can easily cause cardiovascular damage, sweat gland dysfunction, and even sweat gland failure, putting patients in danger of life; if the temperature is above 40°C, it will endanger life and the central nervous system response of the human body, affecting breathing, blood circulation and metabolic functions. According to statistics from the Department of Health's "Timely Epidemic Surveillance and Early Warning System," emergency department data from more than 170 hospitals nationwide show that July and August each year are the peak periods for emergency treatment for heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Last year, the number of people seeking emergency treatment for such related diseases alone reached 1,510 and 1,456. Statistics show that during the summer vacation from July to August every year, five major groups are at high risk of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, including infants, people over 65 years old, patients with cardiovascular diseases, overweight people, and overworked office workers. Clinical symptoms are mostly high body temperature (above 40°C), warm skin without sweat; weak or difficult breathing, weakness, pale face, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or blurred vision and other non-specific symptoms. In severe cases, there may be confusion, hallucinations, and even heat cramps. When people suffer from heatstroke, Dr. Xie Yinghua reminds them to first move the patient to a cool and ventilated place, and lie down with their feet raised to increase the blood supply returning to the heart. At the same time, loosen tight clothes and use ice towels to cool the patient to increase heat dissipation. If the patient is conscious and not vomiting, give him salty drinks to replenish lost water. If your body temperature is above 40 degrees, your skin is dry and hot, your heartbeat is rapid and urgent, and you are unconscious, you should go to the emergency room immediately. In addition to heat stroke, "air conditioner syndrome" is also prone to occur in summer. The reactions to air conditioning syndrome vary from person to person. The most common symptoms are soreness and weakness in the lower limbs, headache and dizziness, insomnia and fatigue, nausea and constipation, dry mouth and itchy nose, inattention, high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, low white blood cell count, susceptibility to colds, arthritis, pharyngitis, etc. Dr. Xie Yinghua recommends using natural wind to cool down as much as possible. When using an air conditioner, avoid large differences in temperature from the outside. Air conditioners and air-conditioned rooms should be kept clean and hygienic to reduce pollution. The room windows should be opened regularly for ventilation and convection to adjust the indoor air in order to avoid air-conditioning sickness. At the same time, office workers should wear cool, loose, light-colored clothes and hats when going out. They can choose breathable cotton or silk clothes. When riding a motorcycle for a long time, it is best to wear a long-sleeved shirt and use sunscreen. Avoid outdoor activities between 10 am and 4 pm. In addition, you can eat "3 melons and 2 soups", the 3 melons refer to winter melon, watermelon, and bitter melon; the 2 soups are mung bean soup and barley soup. These natural ingredients have the effect of cooling down. |
