In order to avoid high blood sugar levels, what are the things that diabetics cannot eat? Nutritionists say that patients are not forbidden to eat anything, but they need to design appropriate portions and eat a balanced diet based on their personal eating habits in order to properly control blood sugar and avoid complications of more serious cardiovascular diseases.

Today, the 27th, the Fengyuan Hospital of the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, held the "Eat Smart, I'm the Best in Sugar Control" event. Nutritionists and case managers worked together to design healthy meal plates for diabetic patients, allowing patients to "enjoy" delicious food in a healthy way while controlling a balanced diet.

Lai Yuzhen, a diabetes personal manager at the Fengyuan Hospital, said that diabetes is a metabolic disorder caused by abnormal insulin secretion or reduced insulin function in the body, and is a chronic disease. The body cells of diabetic patients have a reduced ability to utilize sugar or are completely unable to utilize sugar, which can cause high blood sugar and sugar in the urine, and also affect the metabolic function of protein and fat. Since obesity can easily make clinical symptoms more severe, dietary control is very important.

Zou Jizhen, a nutritionist at the Fengyuan Hospital, said that the blood sugar level of diabetic patients changes greatly after fasting for 8 to 10 hours, so they need to supplement with correct and appropriate foods. Taking breakfast as an example, it is recommended to replace ordinary bread with whole grain bread, or brown rice with porridge. For beverages, sugar-free soy milk or low-fat milk can be used to increase fiber intake. For the staple food of lunch, you can choose grains with high fiber content, and add oats, wheat or millet to white rice when cooking; the amount of vegetables provided should meet the standards of 1000 calories and 14 grams of dietary fiber for diabetes; fresh fruits should be used.

In addition, personal trainer Lai Yuzhen reminds that the chance of postprandial high blood sugar in diabetic patients causing arteriosclerosis is higher than fasting blood sugar, and may even further cause cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and severe stroke. Therefore, patients cannot ignore postprandial high blood sugar and should pay attention to daily diet control to avoid the early occurrence of chronic complications.
