Some clinical symptoms and characteristics of cervicitis

As a common gynecological disease, the symptoms of cervicitis are very similar to many other gynecological diseases in clinical manifestations and are easily confused. The main clinical symptoms of cervicitis are increased leucorrhea. Due to different pathogens, scope and degree of inflammation, leucorrhea can be milky white mucus, light yellow purulent, sometimes bloody or bleeding after sexual intercourse. When the inflammation spreads to the pelvic cavity, waist pain and lower abdominal pain may occur.

Gynecological examinations can reveal varying degrees of cervical erosion, hypertrophy, glandular cysts or polyps. Cervical erosion is one of the most common symptoms of cervicitis, and is clinically divided into three degrees based on the size of the cervical erosion area: mild, with the erosion area not exceeding 1/3 of the entire cervical area; moderate, with the erosion area accounting for 1/3-2/3 of the entire cervical area; and severe, with the erosion area accounting for more than 2/3 of the entire cervical area.

According to the depth of erosion, it can be divided into three types: simple type, granular type and papillary type. Cervical erosion and advanced cervical cancer are difficult to distinguish from each other in appearance, and cervical smear examination and biopsy are required to confirm the diagnosis when necessary.
