Pathological knowledge of ovarian cysts in adolescents

As one of the common gynecological diseases, the cause of ovarian cysts has not been clearly defined in medicine. Although the incidence rate in adolescents is very low, the pathological type, biological behavior, and clinical treatment of adolescent ovarian cysts are more specific and complex than those in adults. Here we invite experts to introduce the pathology of adolescent ovarian cysts in detail.

Like ovarian tumors in adults, adolescents have no special symptoms in the early stages. Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and pelvic masses are the most common symptoms of patients. The pathology of adolescent ovarian cysts also needs to be introduced according to symptoms.

The pathology of adolescent ovarian tumors is different from that of adults. Clinically, most adolescent ovarian tumors are first considered germ cell tumors, followed by epithelial cell tumors.

The pathological characteristics of adolescent ovarian cysts are that most tumors are oval, a few are dumbbell-shaped or gourd-shaped, with a smooth surface, cystic, thin wall, and a few have local tissue thickening and calcification.

The contents of the cysts are mostly oily substances and hair, with teeth and bones in some cases, and papillary protrusions called heads in some cyst walls. Under the microscope, most cyst walls are lined with stratified squamous epithelium, and a few are lined with single-layer columnar or single-layer flat epithelium. The tissue is basically mature skin and nerve tissue.

There is a clear capsule, the cut surface is soft, grayish yellow, and there are often hemorrhage, necrosis, and liquefaction areas, and some areas have a honeycomb appearance. Microscopically, the tumor shows obvious histological diversity, with loose basophilic myxoid matrix, sieve-like microcysts and fissures, lined with transparent and flat epithelial cells, and the epithelial cells have varying degrees of atypicality.

The above pathology of adolescent ovarian cysts is the result of long-term clinical experience and observation. It is highly scientific and authentic, and is very helpful for the treatment of adolescent ovarian cysts.
