(3) Inadequate hygiene during menstruation, pregnancy, and the postpartum period; starting sexual life too early; having many sexual partners (after becoming sexually liberated) are all common causes of dysmenorrhea.

(4) Other factors: Some people report that obese people may be more prone to dysmenorrhea. There are also reports that smokers often have more severe dysmenorrhea than non-smokers, and the severity of dysmenorrhea often increases with the amount of smoking. This may be because smoking often causes vasoconstriction, leading to ischemia and pain. These may be the causes of dysmenorrhea.
