How to diagnose cervicitis

How to diagnose cervicitis

Cervicitis is a common gynecological disease that can occur in women of any age. It is mainly divided into acute and chronic types. Let's learn about the diagnosis methods of cervicitis. I hope it will be helpful to female friends.

Cervicitis is mostly caused by childbirth, abortion or surgery that damages the cervix, which causes pathogens to invade and infect. In addition, it is also related to excessive sexual activity, physical or chemical stimulation, and vaginitis. Chronic cervicitis is more common in clinical practice, and there are often no signs of acute inflammatory processes. So, what are the diagnostic methods for cervicitis?

1. Understand the main symptoms of cervicitis.

2. Gynecological examination: Acute inflammation can cause cervical congestion and edema, or erosion, with purulent secretions discharged from the cervical canal, and pain when the cervix is touched. Chronic cervicitis can cause cervical erosion, hypertrophy, polyps, glandular cysts, and ectropion to varying degrees, or purulent secretions at the cervical opening, and a hard cervix when palpated. If there is cervical erosion or polyps, there may be contact bleeding. This is one of the diagnostic methods for cervicitis.

4. It is difficult to distinguish cervical erosion or polyps from early cervical cancer with the naked eye. The latter has hard, brittle tissue and is prone to bleeding. Cancer cells must be found through cervical cytological examination and, if necessary, colposcopy and cervical tissue biopsy for differentiation.

5. Colposcopy.

6. Cervical TCT examination.

7. For more serious cases or suspected CIN, cervical biopsy can be performed.

The symptom of cervicitis is increased vaginal discharge. Acute cervicitis causes purulent vaginal discharge, accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral region, or bladder irritation symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain. Chronic cervicitis causes milky white mucous discharge or light yellow purulent discharge. In severe cervical erosion or cervical polyps, bloody vaginal discharge or bleeding after sexual intercourse may occur.

Through the above introduction, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of the diagnosis method of cervicitis. I would like to remind everyone that if you find symptoms of cervicitis, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
