Symptoms of ovarian cysts

Ovarian cysts are common tumors of the female reproductive organs. They have a high degree of malignant changes, so early diagnosis is difficult, so it is basically in the late stage when you seek medical treatment. So what are the symptoms of ovarian cysts? Let's take a look.

Symptoms of ovarian cysts include:

1. Increased abdominal circumference: Patients with ovarian cysts notice a sudden enlargement of their abdomen, or accidentally discover a tumor in the abdomen when pressing it, coupled with abdominal distension and discomfort.

2. Compression symptoms: Huge ovarian tumors can cause dyspnea and palpitations due to compression of the diaphragm. Ovarian tumors combined with a large amount of ascites can also cause symptoms of ovarian cysts. However, the dyspnea of some ovarian tumor patients is caused by unilateral or bilateral pleural effusion, and is often combined with ascites.

3. Abdominal pain: If the tumor has no complications, there is very little pain. Therefore, if patients with ovarian tumors feel abdominal pain, especially if it occurs suddenly, it is mostly caused by the twisting of the tumor pedicle, or occasionally by tumor rupture, bleeding or infection. In addition, malignant cysts often cause abdominal pain and leg pain, and the pain often causes patients to seek emergency treatment.

4. Menstrual disorders: Symptoms of ovarian cysts, even bilateral ovarian cysts, generally do not cause menstrual disorders because they do not destroy all normal ovarian tissues. Some uterine bleeding is not endocrine, or it is caused by ovarian tumors that change the distribution of pelvic blood vessels, causing endometrial congestion. Or it is caused by ovarian malignant tumors that directly metastasize to the endometrium. Menstrual disorders caused by endocrine tumors are often combined with other secretory effects.

5. Frequent urination, but without pain or urgency; or constipation.

6. Feeling that the lower abdomen is enlarged and the waist of the pants is tight. A lump can be felt in the lower abdomen, especially in the morning, and disappears after urination.

7. Ovarian mass was found during gynecological examination.

8. Dysmenorrhea: Dysmenorrhea is the main symptom of chocolate cysts. It is secondary and worsens year by year, but a few patients do not have obvious dysmenorrhea. The ectopic endometrium is affected by ovarian hormones and has the same cyclical changes as the normal endometrium. In the second half of menstruation, the ectopic endometrium is highly thickened and congested, and the pressure in the endometriosis gradually increases. During menstruation, menstrual blood accumulates in the cyst, which suddenly increases the pressure on the cyst wall and causes pain.

9. Pain during sexual intercourse: Endometriosis in the rectouterine fossa, posterior vaginal fornix, uterosacral ligament and other areas can cause pain during sexual intercourse, and it is often more obvious before menstruation.

10. Cause infertility: About 30-70% of patients with endometriosis have infertility, and about 70-80% of patients with unexplained infertility have endometriosis. Patients are often infertile due to mechanical factors such as pelvic organ adhesions, which obstruct the peristalsis of the fallopian tubes or blockage of the fallopian tubes. It may also be related to factors such as ovarian insufficiency, enhanced autoimmune response, increased prostaglandins, and increased prolactin.

11. Acute abdomen: Ovarian endometrial cysts have brittle cyst walls that lack elasticity. Menstrual blood gradually accumulates, and the pressure inside the cyst continues to increase. The contents can rupture from the weak parts of the cyst wall, overflow into the abdominal cavity, stimulate the peritoneum, cause peritonitis, and result in acute abdomen.
