Corpus luteum destruction is effective in treating ectopic pregnancy

Corpus luteum ablation is an effective method for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy and has been widely used in clinical practice.

1. The principle of corpus luteum destruction

The corpus luteum destruction surgery mainly uses a combination of mechanical and drug methods to destroy the corpus luteum of pregnancy, causing a sudden drop in the level of progesterone in the body that supports pregnancy, thereby achieving the therapeutic goal of natural apoptosis of the embryo.

2. Indications for corpus luteum destruction

Corpus luteum destruction is mainly suitable for patients with unruptured ectopic pregnancy but it is difficult to find the location of pregnancy, or the location of pregnancy is not conducive to surgical resection, such as cornual pregnancy, cervical pregnancy, etc. Under normal circumstances, this operation will not touch the pregnancy site, nor will it cause complications such as intraoperative bleeding, and the harm to the body is relatively small.

3. Procedure of Corpus Luteum Destruction

There are two main surgical procedures for corpus luteum destruction, namely laparoscopy and vaginal B-ultrasound intervention. For the laparoscopic method, 250 mg of mifepristone must be taken orally before the operation. Under the premise of safe and reliable anesthesia, laparoscopic technology is used to determine the location of pregnancy and find the corpus luteum for separation, removal and hemostasis. If the corpus luteum has ruptured or is close to rupture, a window suture operation is required immediately, and human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone levels must be monitored daily in the short term after surgery. For the vaginal B-ultrasound intervention method, 250 mg of mifepristone must also be taken orally before the operation. Under the premise of safe and reliable anesthesia, after the corpus luteum is removed by vaginal B-ultrasound puncture, 5 ml to 10 ml of anhydrous alcohol is injected to complete the operation. Human chorionic gonadotropin and progesterone levels must also be closely monitored after surgery.
