What causes adnexitis?

The treatment of adnexitis needs to be targeted according to the cause. Common causes include infection, surgical trauma, and spread of inflammation to adjacent organs. Treatment methods include antibiotics, physical therapy, and surgery. The specific choice should be based on the severity of the disease and the individual patient's condition.

1. Infection is one of the main causes of adnexitis. Common pathogens include bacteria, viruses and fungi. Bacterial infections such as gonococci and chlamydia can cause adnexitis through sexual transmission or ascending infection. Viral infections such as herpes simplex virus can also cause inflammation. Fungal infections are more common in people with weakened immunity. In terms of treatment, antibiotics such as cephalosporins and quinolones are commonly used for bacterial infections; antiviral drugs such as acyclovir can be used for viral infections; and antifungal drugs such as fluconazole are required for fungal infections.

2. Surgical trauma is also a common cause of adnexitis, especially gynecological surgery such as artificial abortion, hysteroscopic surgery, etc. The fallopian tubes or ovaries may be damaged during surgery, leading to inflammation. Improper postoperative care and lax infection control will also increase the risk of adnexitis. In terms of treatment, postoperative care should be strengthened to prevent infection, and antibiotics should be used when necessary. Physical therapy such as hot compresses and infrared irradiation can promote local blood circulation and accelerate the absorption of inflammation.

3. The spread of inflammation in adjacent organs is another important cause of adnexitis, such as pelvic inflammatory disease and appendicitis. These inflammations can spread to the appendages through lymphatic or blood routes, causing adnexitis. In terms of treatment, the primary lesion should be treated at the same time to control the spread of inflammation. Antibiotic treatment is the main means, and severe cases may require surgical treatment, such as abscess drainage, adnexectomy, etc.

The prevention and treatment of adnexitis requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors. Timely medical treatment and standardized treatment are the key. Paying attention to personal hygiene in daily life, avoiding unclean sexual behavior, and regular gynecological examinations can help reduce the risk of adnexitis.
