Sequelae of Bartholinitis

Sequelae of Bartholinitis

Bartholinitis may lead to sequelae such as repeated infection, damage to glandular structure, and discomfort during sexual intercourse. In severe cases, it may also affect fertility. Early detection and standardized treatment can help reduce the risk of sequelae.

Bartholinitis is a common inflammation of the female external genitalia, mostly caused by bacterial infection. If not treated in time or incompletely, the glandular mucus secretion function may be impaired, leading to repeated infectious inflammation. Scarring around the gland may also cause pain, especially discomfort when walking and having sex, and may even affect the normal excretion function of the gland due to chronic adhesions. Long-term chronic inflammation may spread from the local area to the surrounding genitals, and in severe cases may even cause complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, further endangering reproductive health or leading to infertility. Local cysts or abscesses may appear in the later stages of infection, which not only affect local hygiene, but may also further aggravate the above symptoms.

In order to prevent sequelae, antibiotics such as cephalosporins and clarithromycin should be used in time during the acute phase of infection, and the full course of treatment should be completed as directed by the doctor. If an abscess is formed, surgical incision and drainage or gland removal may be required to prevent the spread of infection. Daily prevention can be effective by keeping the vulva clean, reducing unnecessary vaginal douching, and preventing sexually transmitted infections. It is also very important to improve the body's immunity. You can consume more foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges and kiwis, and insist on moderate exercise, such as yoga or walking, which will help improve your overall health. If symptoms persist and are accompanied by obvious discomfort, you should see a gynecologist as soon as possible to further clarify the condition and take targeted measures.
