Worried about the high temperatures during the Mid-Autumn Festival? This year, the National Health Administration launched a creative and healthy Mid-Autumn Festival meal that combines traditional seasonal ingredients such as barbecue, moon cakes, and pomelo, adds seasonal ingredients, and uses natural seasonings instead of barbecue sauce. Not only can you eat the six major types of natural foods needed by the human body at one time, but the calories are only about 40% of those in a barbecue dinner, so you can enjoy delicious food while taking into account nutrition and health.

Mid-Autumn barbecue has become a popular trend nowadays. Various processed foods such as meat slices (skewers), bacon, sausages, meatballs, etc. are the indispensable main ingredients. Add to that mooncakes, snacks, and sugary drinks such as soda and cola, and the calories of a meal may exceed 2,500 calories. This is far higher than the 1,800-2,100 calories required by an average adult per day (calculated based on a person aged 31-50, weighing 65 kg and engaging in light activity). Not to mention the health burdens brought by high sodium, high oil and high sugar in barbecue sauce, moon cakes and beverages.

Wu Zhaojun, director of the National Health Administration, reminds that when barbecuing, you can replace red meat with white meat and seafood, and pair it with vegetables such as green beans, loofah, zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, or unrefined grains such as corn, pumpkin, sweet potato, and potato. This can not only reduce fat, but also increase the intake of dietary fiber and various vitamins. In addition, choosing mooncakes with simple ingredients and clear labels, and eating them in moderation or sharing them with friends and family are all tips for healthy consumption.

Replacing white toast with soda crackers not only retains the wheat aroma, but also adds a crisp texture; adding avocado increases the smooth taste and also allows you to consume good fats (monounsaturated fatty acids).

The meal significantly reduces the calories, fat, sugar and sodium content, making it easy to get six major types of food. In addition, nutrients such as dietary fiber, folic acid and potassium can exceed 50% of the recommended daily intake, and vitamin C reaches 100%.
