She eats all the leftovers from all three meals~ She became obese and got breast cancer!

Obesity is not a blessing! Obesity can lead to many complications, and may even cause breast cancer, the number one killer of gynecological cancers among women! In particular, the latest cancer registration report for 2017 also found that the number of female breast cancer cases increased significantly, totaling 13,965, an increase of 1,293 cases from 12,672 in 2016. The growth rate is even higher than that of colorectal cancer. People at high risk of developing breast cancer should not only be careful to maintain a healthy body shape, but also remember to have regular breast examinations.

Groups at high risk of breast cancer include those with a family history of breast cancer, obesity, and a preference for a high-sugar and high-fat diet.

Mrs. Ke, a 60-year-old housewife, underwent a health check at the Beitou Health Management Hospital and was found to be 162 cm tall, 80.3 kg in weight, with a BMI (body mass index) of 30.6, and a waist circumference that exceeded the ideal range of 80 cm for women.

She eats all the leftovers from all three meals, and her BMI is over 30

When consulting on the health checkup report for Mother Ke, Dr. Shen Yanjun, chief physician of Beitou Health Management Hospital, learned that Mother Ke liked to prepare three sumptuous meals for her family. She also saw that there were often one or two bites of food left over at home, and it was too wasteful to throw them away, so she would eat the leftovers herself, and after a long time, the food ended up on her body.

Therefore, Chief Physician Shen Yanjun reminded her that she needed to pay attention to weight control, because a BMI value of over 30 was considered moderately obese. In addition to the appearance issues of obesity, the most important thing is to avoid letting obesity become a risk factor for many diseases.

Early detection, early treatment! The 5-year survival rate for stage 1 breast cancer is 95%.

A closer look at Mama Ke's breast examination revealed through zero-radiation dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): there was a 1.8 cm lesion with an irregular outer edge about 3 cm away from the nipple in the upper right corner of the left breast, indicating a high chance of breast cancer. Further biopsy by a specialist confirmed that she had stage 1 breast cancer. Fortunately, it was discovered early and through local removal surgery, she was able to keep her left breast. If you follow your doctor's advice and receive treatment as soon as possible, the 5-year survival rate for stage 1 breast cancer can reach 95%.

High-risk groups for breast cancer: family history of breast cancer, obesity, preference for high-sugar and high-fat diets, etc.

Chief Physician Shen Yanjun said that having a family history of breast cancer, obesity, a preference for a high-sugar and high-fat diet, drinking, long-term exposure to hormone products, never being pregnant or breastfeeding, early menstruation or late menopause, etc. may all increase the risk of breast cancer. Studies have shown that overweight and obese people have a higher risk of breast cancer; when a woman's BMI value is greater than 25, the risk of breast cancer increases by 17%; when BMI is greater than 30, the risk of breast cancer increases by 37%; and when BMI is greater than 35, the risk of breast cancer increases by nearly 60%.

【Doctor's Tips】:

It is a reminder that women should maintain a healthy body shape (18.5≦BMI<24). Women over 30 years old should arrange a breast imaging examination once a year. Especially those in high-risk groups should arrange regular breast examinations for themselves and their families (breast examinations include: ultrasound, mammography and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging, etc.) to achieve early detection and early treatment to achieve a good prognosis.
