Can eating pasta help you lose weight? Study: Eating 3.3 servings a week can help you lose 0.5 kg

One group consumed 3.3 servings of pasta per week, while the other group consumed other alternative carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes, and white toast.

Each subject had their weight, BMI, body fat and waist circumference measured before and after the experiment. The results of the study showed that those who ate pasta actually lost weight, losing an average of about half a kilogram. Although the weight loss was not significant, the result surprised experts because the original purpose of this study was to explore why carbohydrates make people fat.

In addition, experts recommend adopting a Low Glycemic Index Diet to maintain good health, and reiterate that instead of blindly following the latest diet trends, it is better to observe the facts of the matter. Experts said: "This research result is worthy of attention. In fact, this isn't the first study to find that pasta appears to aid weight loss. In 2016, the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council of Australia used the results of a study of 9,341 Australian subjects to suggest that the grain ingredients in pasta are not a harmful factor that causes weight gain. Another study conducted in Italy (with a total of 23,000 subjects) also pointed out that as long as pasta is consumed in moderation, it will not make you fat.

Having said so much, what is the reason why eating pasta can help you lose weight? Compared to high glycemic index foods such as white rice and white bread, pasta is a low glycemic index food, just like beans and oats, and will not cause blood sugar to rise rapidly all at once. That is to say, when people consume these low-glycemic index foods, they are digested more slowly in the human body and are therefore absorbed by the body in a more efficient way. However, even though you now know you can relax and enjoy your pasta, don't assume that you can achieve your weight loss goals by eating pasta alone. If you want to lose weight, you still have to cooperate with exercise.
