Help the body drain water! Eliminating edema: different strategies in different seasons

It’s so unfair to be fat but not healthy! Many women have a normal BMI (body mass index), but they appear to have bloated bodies due to edema. They try exercise, massage or dieting, but the results of weight loss and swelling reduction are not satisfactory. Did you know? The reason may be that the method of reducing edema is not "adapted to the seasons". Experts believe that human edema will vary with the seasons, and helping the body "drain water" naturally requires adaptability.

In his book "Eliminate Puffiness and Edema, Lose 3 kg in 7 Days", Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a professor at the School of Medicine at Juntendo University in Japan, mentioned that 90% of obesity is caused by "edema". As long as the autonomic nervous system is adjusted, edema can be eliminated and puffiness can be eliminated, making people look slimmer and younger and more energetic. However, the causes and types of edema in each season are slightly different: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. If you want to effectively eliminate edema, you need to adjust the methods appropriately.

Spring/Fatigue and fatigue, get up early in the morning and stretch frequently

Saying goodbye to the cold winter, the climate in spring is gradually getting warmer. Generally speaking, the body will be less prone to edema due to better blood circulation. However, if the body cannot keep up with the rapidly changing climate, the balance of the autonomic nervous system will be disrupted, the parasympathetic nervous system will be abnormally increased, and the body will be in a state of excessive relaxation. It is easy to develop a lack of motivation, depression, and affect metabolism, leading to "emotional edema."

To eliminate the trouble of "emotional edema" in spring, it is recommended to develop a habit of doing simple exercises when you get up every day. By raising your hands above your head and crossing them, and stretching your hands upward while inhaling, you can activate blood circulation and adjust the autonomic nervous system. You can also take a shower early in the morning. Through the stimulation of warm and hot water on the skin, the sympathetic nerves can be more active, thereby maintaining the balance of the autonomic nervous system and helping to eliminate excess water.

Rainy season / Exercise more to improve blood circulation and body moisture removal

There are three main reasons why people are prone to edema during the rainy season: first, the rainy season is mostly shrouded in low pressure, which can easily stimulate the sympathetic nerves, causing autonomic nervous system disorders and poor blood circulation, which can easily lead to edema; second, the humidity is high during the rainy season, and it is not easy for the water in the human body to turn into sweat and evaporate from the pores, causing water accumulation in the body and forming edema; third, there are many rainy days during the rainy season, and many people have become "homebodies", too lazy to go out for exercise, and their breathing becomes shallow, which leads to poor blood circulation and then edema.

The key to getting rid of rainy season edema is to improve blood circulation! In addition to exercising diligently to enhance blood circulation and perspiration, a regular lifestyle is also important to help the autonomic nervous system maintain balance and allow the body to "drain water" normally.

Summer/Air-conditioning users tend to have cold hands and feet, keep your body warm and don’t be afraid of the cold

Logically speaking, hot summer is a season when people sweat a lot and are less likely to suffer from edema. However, many people frequently go in and out of air-conditioned rooms. The sudden changes in temperature can easily lead to autonomic nervous system imbalance and poor blood circulation, resulting in problems such as "cold hands and feet in summer", shoulder and neck pain, loss of appetite, back pain, and headaches. Moreover, we often use air conditioning in the summer, which reduces the body's chance of sweating, and excess water and metabolites are easily accumulated in the body, leading to edema.

For people who are prone to cold hands and feet and edema in the summer, it is recommended to prepare a coat or blanket when staying in an air-conditioned room, put it on when you feel cold, and try to keep the body warm; consume more B vitamins that can convert sugars and fats into energy, vitamin E that helps improve blood circulation, and spices that can raise body temperature such as onions and ginger; take a half-body bath in water at 39℃ to 40℃; and drink more water.

Autumn and winter: Regular life, strengthening blood circulation

As the temperature drops in autumn and winter, the body's sympathetic nerve function automatically increases in order to prevent the body temperature from dissipating, causing vasoconstriction. When the blood vessels contract excessively, blood cannot be delivered to the extremities, and the troubles of cold hands and feet or edema will increase. At this time, the key to improving autumn and winter edema is to enhance the parasympathetic nervous function.

To allow the parasympathetic nervous system to play its role in eliminating edema, you should start with regular living habits, including: maintaining adequate sleep of more than 6 hours a day; eating three meals a day at fixed times and evenly distributed portions; maintaining the habit of moderate exercise no matter how cold the weather is, but avoiding sudden intense exercise; wearing appropriate clothing, scarves, hats, socks or boots to keep your body warm.
