Experts on the order of exercise and diet: Eat after exercise

I ate too much during the Spring Festival holiday. It’s time to start exercising after get off work! But should you exercise on an empty stomach? Or should I eat a meal before exercising? Experts say it's better to go hungry for a while. For one thing, exercising on an empty stomach is better at burning body fat, says Molly Kimball, MD, of New Orleans.

"Eating increases adrenal secretion and does not burn existing body fat." And eating within an hour before exercise can cause nausea or stomach cramps — forcing you to cut your workout short. "Unless you're doing something intense like a new recruit that requires hundreds or thousands of calories, or you're a little dizzy because of low blood sugar, you don't need to eat first."

If you meet the above two conditions, it is recommended that you eat some carbohydrate foods containing protein and a little fat (such as whole grain soda crackers with peanut butter) before exercise, so that you can quickly absorb energy and exercise well to achieve the best results.
