If you don’t control your diet, be careful of fatty liver! Studies have shown that approximately 1 in 3 people in Taiwan suffers from fatty liver. Long-term fatty liver may develop into fatty hepatitis, cirrhosis, or even liver cancer. Doctors point out that changing your diet, eating as light as possible, not staying up late, and avoiding high-sugar foods as much as possible are the only ways to prevent and stay away from fatty liver. Obesity is the killer of fatty liver, and diet control is very important. Chen Yongfa, attending physician of the Department of Gastroenterology at Taipei Municipal Wan Fang Hospital, pointed out that obesity is the killer of fatty liver. There was once a male patient who weighed over 80 kilograms and had severe fatty liver. Over the past year, through diet control and exercise, he successfully lost more than 10 kilograms, naturally reducing a lot of fatty liver and mitigating the risk of the disease. Fatty liver avoids high blood sugar environment It has been clinically confirmed that a high blood sugar environment will promote the occurrence of fatty liver, and liver disease will also lead to poor sugar metabolism. Therefore, by changing your diet, taking good care of your liver and avoiding a high-sugar diet as much as possible, the liver will be able to effectively process the glucose in the portal vein and avoid blood sugar spikes after meals that can lead to pathology. In fact, the liver is a silent organ and symptoms are usually not obvious, fatty liver is one of them. According to pathological theory, if more than 5% of the liver weight is composed of fat, it is called fatty liver. If the liver is severely inflamed, symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, anorexia, jaundice, and swelling in the right upper abdomen may occur. Reducing the intake of fried or high-starch foods can significantly help prevent fatty liver. Poor metabolism can lead to liver problems It is important to note that fatty liver may be an indicator of whether metabolic function is sound. Although fatty liver is not hereditary, people with high blood lipids or a family history of diabetes, for example, may still have fatty liver even if they do not appear obese, because there may be problems with their body's metabolic capacity. In the outpatient clinic, it was found that if a person who is not obese and does not drink alcohol has moderate fatty liver, then we have to consider that this person has poor metabolism and may have diabetes or high triglycerides. Diet control to avoid high blood sugar In addition to obesity, fatty liver is also commonly caused by high blood lipids, high triglycerides, alcoholism, poorly controlled diabetes, hepatitis C, and medications (such as steroids and anti-rheumatic drugs). Clinically, patients with poor liver function will often find that their blood sugar rises sharply after meals if they do not control their diet. If they lower their blood sugar after meals, they can maintain the health of pancreatic and liver cells at the same time, which is beneficial to controlling blood sugar and reducing fatty liver. Diet management: Eat more fiber fruits and vegetables To establish eating habits that prevent blood sugar levels from soaring after meals, people can often eat fiber-containing foods, including vegetables, potatoes, tofu, seaweed, mushrooms, konjac and other high-fiber ingredients, or eat more boiled or stewed vegetables, as well as dried foods such as dried radish, dried shiitake mushrooms, and dried black fungus that contain a lot of dietary fiber. Or you can eat more brown rice and germ rice, choose rye, whole wheat, or wheat germ bread instead of white rice and refined bread, and change the order of meals, eat vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or noodles, which can also avoid a surge in blood sugar after meals. ★Please be sure to read "The Secret to Getting Rid of Fatty Liver Disease"! |
