Eat heavy salty food! American children consume 3,300 mg of salt a day

Do you always let your children eat microwaved food from convenience stores or eat hamburgers and fries at fast food chains? Be careful as these foods contain too much salt, which can easily harm children's health. The recommended daily salt intake for children is about 1 teaspoon (2300 mg), but a US survey found that children consume up to 3300 mg of salt a day, which is almost equivalent to the recommended intake for adults. This will have a negative impact on children's health in the long run.

According to the latest research results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among 6,200 American children aged 8 to 18 who were surveyed, the salt intake was calculated by asking about the details of their daily food intake. It was found that the average salt intake of children exceeded the recommended amount by 1,000 mg, reaching 3,300 mg, and 15% of the children suffered from high blood pressure or symptoms known as "prehypertension."

Among the children surveyed, those who consumed the most salt had twice the risk of developing high blood pressure as the average child. This shows that salt intake does have a significant impact on health. A survey conducted in the UK in June this year also found that children have the problem of excessive salt intake. The salt content in smoked ham, cheese, chicken nuggets, etc. is very considerable and should not be underestimated.

Too much salt can cause children to be at risk of high blood pressure at a young age. In addition, it can also easily lead to heart disease and even stroke. Therefore, when adults choose food for children, it is recommended that they choose low-salt foods to reduce the burden on health.
