Gastric band plication surgery achieved great results in reducing 60% of excess weight

Taiwan's minimally invasive weight loss surgery medical technology has surpassed international standards. A popular weight loss surgery in recent years is "gastric band plication surgery", which is a modified combination of gastric band surgery and gastric plication surgery. Kaohsiung E-Da Hospital has performed 164 cases in the past three years and found that on average, at least 60% of excess weight can be reduced in the first year after surgery, and 74% of excess weight can continue to be reduced in the second year. This means that within two years after surgery, weight loss cases can almost all return to a normal and healthy body shape. (Video/Photographer Huang Zhiwen)

In the past, gastric banding surgery was not very effective in reducing weight and required frequent follow-up visits; although gastric plication surgery was effective, it was easy to gain weight again. By chance, Dr. Huang Zhikun, director of the International Weight Loss and Diabetes Center of Kaohsiung E-Da Hospital, combined the two surgeries and successfully improved the shortcomings of both surgeries without the need to remove the gastrointestinal organs.

The International Bariatric and Diabetic Surgery Center of E-Da Hospital invented the world's first "gastric band plication surgery" in May 2009, which has become a new benchmark for global bariatric surgery. This technology has been recognized by the American Society of Obesity Surgeons and has even been cited by two hospitals in the United States as a major bariatric surgery.

This surgery does not require any cutting of the patient's body or affect gastrointestinal absorption, allowing patients who are losing weight to return to their normal routine immediately after the surgery without the complications of gastrointestinal tract or malabsorption that may have been caused by weight loss surgeries in the past.

Miss Amanda, who originally weighed 115 kg and had severe fatty liver and hyperlipidemia, underwent gastric band plication surgery on April 2, 2010. Her weight dropped from 115 kg to 67 kg. So far, she has successfully lost 48 kg, which is equivalent to the weight reduction of a young woman, and she has found her life partner.
