However, doctors remind people with skinny figures to be careful about their diet, as they may become hypertensive. Since she can never gain weight no matter how much she eats, she thinks she has a very good appetite and often likes to search for delicious food to try. However, she never expected that she would suffer from high blood pressure.

He Yicheng, deputy director of Rongxin Clinic, said that nearly 30% of the patients with hypertension in the outpatient clinic are thin. After detailed inquiries about their medical history, it was found that their lifestyle is often not very healthy. Because they feel that they cannot gain weight, they tend to have heavy tastes in their eating habits.

According to statistics from the National Health Bureau, there are approximately 4.3 million people with hypertension in Taiwan, accounting for 20% of the total population, which means that on average one in every four people suffers from hypertension. What’s worse is that 40% of people suffer from high blood pressure but are unaware of it. If you don't pay attention to your diet and consume too much salt and sodium, you may develop high blood pressure. So don’t think that only obese people are most likely to suffer from high blood pressure. People with thin bodies may also suffer from high blood pressure if they are not careful.

Dr. He Yicheng said that to prevent and control the occurrence of hypertension, we must first avoid excessive intake of salt, sodium and fat. Sodium salt should not be excessive, no more than 2.4 grams a day. Common bean paste, shrimp paste, miso and shacha sauce all contain more sodium salt. If too much sodium is consumed, it is easy for water to be retained in the body and blood vessels to contract more easily, leading to increased blood pressure. It is recommended to enhance the taste through ingredients with natural flavors such as mushrooms, onions, ginger, garlic, and peppers. In addition, you should also exercise regularly and in moderation, develop good living habits, and get enough sleep and stay relaxed.

Patients with hypertension should measure their blood pressure at least once a day and record it accurately. People without hypertension should also develop the habit of measuring their blood pressure. After all, “early detection means early treatment”. Otherwise, discovering it too late will not be worth the loss.
