Say goodbye to male beer belly: inject testosterone to lose weight

Many men develop beer bellies as they age due to bad lifestyle habits. They seem unable to do anything and become a symbol of the "midlife crisis". At this year's "European Congress on Obesity", British scholars announced an interesting research result, indicating that increasing the concentration of testosterone in the body through hormone injections will effectively solve the problem of "big belly" and restore male masculinity, killing two birds with one stone.

The British national broadcaster BBC reported today that researchers from the Reproductive Health Center at the University of Edinburgh said that after a certain age, the concentration of testosterone in men's bodies will gradually decrease, leading to physical and mental reactions such as decreased libido, impotence, lack of energy, depression, insomnia, etc., which are typical signs of "male menopause". For this group of men facing a "midlife crisis", researchers recommended regular hormone injections to alleviate similar symptoms and discomfort. Unexpectedly, they found that these people began to lose weight, so they inferred that increasing testosterone levels seems to help middle-aged and elderly men lose weight.

The study surveyed 115 obese men aged between 38 and 83. During the experiment, they were injected with a small amount of testosterone supplements every 12 weeks. Five years later, the weight of all subjects dropped by an average of 16 kilograms. Not only did their physical strength improve, but their sluggish mental state also improved a lot. As for the concerns of some experts that excessive testosterone may lead to prostate cancer, this did not arise during the experiment, indicating that an increase in testosterone does help men "lose weight."

Professor Ashley Grossman, who specializes in endocrine research at the University of Oxford, said that clinical studies have shown that a decrease in testosterone in men will indeed cause muscles to become smaller, but this does not mean that testosterone supplementation can reduce body fat or increase muscle mass. This is a very interesting study, but the sample size is not large enough, so its reliability and validity are slightly insufficient.
