The sixth education! Nanshi promotes food education to be included in education policy

Hoping that Tainan City's school lunches will be the best, Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te announced at the "Nutritious Lunch Promotion of Low-Carbon Local Ingredients Briefing" on the 19th that Tainan City's school lunches will work in five major directions in the future. These are to formally incorporate "food education" into education policy, give equal weight to the benefits and prevention of drawbacks of nutritious lunches, use local ingredients, formulate the "Tainan City School Nutritional Lunch Autonomy Regulations," and recommend that the Ministry of Education establish "nutrition teachers."

In addition to the five aspects of education, namely "moral, intellectual, physical, social, and aesthetic", Tainan City will add a sixth aspect, "food education", so that children can develop correct dietary knowledge and skills from an early age.

In order to encourage all schools at all levels in Tainan to use low-carbon local ingredients in their student lunches to protect the health of students and assist in the sustainable development of the city's agriculture (livestock) industry, the Education Bureau held a "Tainan City School Lunch Promotion Seminar at Xinnan Elementary School in the West Central District and Datong Elementary School in the Shanhua District" on the morning of March 19 and the afternoon of March 21 respectively.

On the 19th, the "Tainan City School Lunches Promotion of Low-Carbon Local Ingredients Briefing" was held at Xinnan Elementary School. Mayor Lai Ching-te personally led Secretary-General Chen Meiling, Education Bureau Director Zheng Bangzhen, Health Bureau Director Lin Shengzhe, Agriculture Bureau Director Xu Hanqing, Environmental Protection Bureau Director Zhang Huangzhen, Legal Affairs Department Deputy Director Guo Hongrong, and Education Bureau Deputy Director Huang Xuxin to attend. The meeting invited Tainan City elementary and middle school principals, group catering operators and agricultural product suppliers, a total of about 200 people participated.

Lai Ching-te first announced that "food education" would be included in the education policy. He said that in addition to the five aspects of education, namely "morality, intelligence, physical fitness, sociality, and aesthetics", Tainan City will add the sixth aspect, "food education", so that children can establish correct dietary knowledge and abilities from an early age to reduce the occurrence of civilization diseases. "Food education" refers to dietary etiquette education and nutritional education.

Tainan City has 272 elementary and middle schools, including 9 elementary school branches, totaling 281 elementary and middle schools, providing nutritious lunches for approximately 170,000 students every day. After inspecting the New South Country Kitchen, Mayor Lai expressed satisfaction that the city government is very concerned about the children's nutritious lunch, which must be both hygienic and nutritious so that children can grow up healthily and study happily. At the same time, he hopes that all purchases can implement the concept of a low-carbon city.
