Drinking 4 cups of coffee a day reduces risk of type 2 diabetes

After getting up in the morning or before going to work, many people are accustomed to having a cup of coffee to wake up their brains as a kind of "spiritual reward". Many previous studies have also confirmed that drinking more coffee can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Now there is clear data showing that consuming a moderate amount of coffee (4-5 cups) a day can effectively reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Foreign studies have found that drinking more coffee can reduce the risk of diabetes.

The British Daily Mail was the first to report that this pan-European study led by Germany lasted nearly nine years and involved 42,659 people from 10 countries, of which 1,432 cases of type 2 diabetes were diagnosed. After cross-comparison of relevant data, it was found that people who drank four cups of coffee a day had a 20% to 30% lower risk of developing diabetes than those who drank less than one cup on average. Even decaffeinated coffee had a similar effect.

Researchers say that the antioxidants and magnesium in coffee should be the key. Drinking one cup a day can reduce the risk of disease by 7%, and drinking four cups can accumulate to 25%, which is a significant effect. The main characteristic of type 2 diabetes is "insulin resistance", which means that the physiological response of peripheral tissues to insulin is reduced, leading to high blood lipids, high blood pressure, and insufficient glucose tolerance. When blood sugar fluctuates, it is easy to induce cardiovascular diseases.

Utrecht University in the Netherlands, which also participated in the research project, also stated that drinking an average cup of coffee can allow one to sustain a long-distance drive for four hours without dozing off, but pregnant women must consider their daily coffee intake, which should be limited to 200 grams in principle. Too much caffeine is not only detrimental to the growth of the fetus in the womb, but may also increase the risk of miscarriage.
