Nomiting is off the market, only one legal weight loss drug remains

What are the currently legal weight loss drugs? The answer is: there is only one left. Reductil, a weight loss drug with a market share of more than 70% in the domestic legal Western medicine market and a peak sales volume of 2.24 million pills, will be officially removed from the market in Taiwan starting tomorrow, the 11th. This decision also means that "Luoshixian" is the only legal weight loss drug left in the country.

The Food and Drug Administration of the Department of Health announced yesterday that it would revoke the drug license of Nomexil. 14 other weight loss drugs with the same ingredient "Sibutramine" were also revoked and withdrawn from the market because Sibutramine may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in users. Therefore, starting from tomorrow, the certificates of 15 weight-loss drugs containing sibutramine, including Nomectin, will be revoked, and all drugs on the market must be removed from the shelves and recalled within one month.

One year ago, an experiment conducted abroad on more than 10,000 people, involving the Abbott research team, showed that the rate of heart attack, stroke and other diseases among those taking Nomectin was 16% higher than that of the control group who did not take it, but the weight loss was only 2.5 percentage points more than the control group, and the effect was not obvious. The research results were published in the internationally renowned medical journal "New England Journal of Medicine". The European Union immediately stopped the sales license of Nomexil in January this year. The US FDA also stated the day before yesterday that obese people only lost an average of 2.27 kilograms after taking Nomexil, and the effect was not proportional to the risk, so it was required to be removed from the shelves.

The Department of Health pointed out that in addition to the possible side effects of sibutramine such as increased blood pressure, tachycardia, and palpitations, it may also interact with other drugs, such as central nervous system activators, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, oral contraceptives, and drugs for treating migraines, and taking it may cause adverse drug reactions.
