What is the difference between a biochemical pregnancy and an ectopic pregnancy?

The difference between biochemical pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy lies in the different locations of occurrence, different symptoms, different urine test results, and different impacts.

The difference between biochemical pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy:

1. Different locations: Biochemical pregnancy occurs in the uterus, but the fetus does not develop normally or does not form a blastocyst. Ectopic pregnancy refers to the fertilized egg implanting outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube.

2. Different symptoms: The symptoms of biochemical pregnancy are relatively mild, and may only include mild abdominal pain, breast tenderness and increased sensitivity, nausea and vomiting, fatigue and dizziness, etc. The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are usually more obvious, including persistent abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, shoulder pain, syncope, etc.

3. Different urine test results: The urine pregnancy test of biochemical pregnancy is positive, but the levels of HCG, progesterone and estrogen in the blood are low. The urine pregnancy test of ectopic pregnancy is also positive, and the HCG level in the blood is usually higher than that of biochemical pregnancy, but lower than that of normal pregnancy; the progesterone and estrogen levels may be similar to or slightly higher than those of biochemical pregnancy, but significantly lower than those of normal pregnancy.

4. Different impacts: Biochemical pregnancy generally does not cause obvious harm to the body, but ectopic pregnancy must be treated as soon as possible, otherwise it may cause fallopian tube rupture, causing heavy bleeding, and seriously threatening life and health.

Notes on biochemical pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy:

Biochemical pregnancy and ectopic pregnancy are both abnormal conditions that occur during pregnancy. If it is confirmed to be a biochemical pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy, you should cooperate with the doctor for targeted treatment in time.
