Are ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids the same disease? What are their characteristics?

Are ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids the same disease? What are their characteristics?

1. Ovarian cysts are cystic tumors on the ovaries, while uterine fibroids are tumors on the uterus. They are not the same thing.

2. Uterine fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyoma, are the most common benign tumors of the female genitalia. Most of them are asymptomatic, but a few of them present with vaginal bleeding, abdominal masses, and compression symptoms. If the pedicle is twisted or other conditions occur, it may cause pain. Multiple uterine fibroids are common.

The exact cause of this disease is unknown. Modern Western medicine uses sex hormones or surgery for treatment, and there is no other ideal treatment. Uterine fibroids are more common in women aged 30 to 45 with strong ovarian function. After the age of 50, due to the obvious decline of ovarian function, most fibroids shrink on their own.

3. Ovarian cysts are a type of ovarian tumor in a broad sense. They can occur at any age, but are most common in women aged 20 to 50. Clinically, ovarian cysts often present with lower abdominal pain, lower abdominal discomfort, increased vaginal discharge, yellow vaginal discharge, abnormal vaginal odor, and menstrual irregularities. There is usually a solid and painless mass in the lower abdomen, and sometimes sexual intercourse can cause pain.

When the cyst affects hormone secretion, symptoms such as irregular vaginal bleeding or increased body hair may occur. If the ovarian cyst is twisted, there will be severe abdominal pain, bloating, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, nausea and fever.
