Will ovarian cysts cause amenorrhea?

Ovarian tumors can occur at any age, but are more common in women of childbearing age. They are common gynecological tumors, accounting for 32% of female genital tumors. So can ovarian cysts cause amenorrhea?

Clinically, ovarian cysts often present with lower abdominal pain, lower abdominal discomfort, increased vaginal discharge, yellow vaginal discharge, abnormal vaginal odor, and menstrual irregularities. There is usually a solid and painless mass in the lower abdomen, and sometimes sexual intercourse may cause pain.

When the cyst affects hormone production, symptoms such as irregular vaginal bleeding or increased hair growth may occur. If the cyst is twisted, there will be severe abdominal pain, dyspnea, loss of appetite, nausea and fever. Larger cysts will cause pressure near the bladder, causing frequent urination and dysuria. Especially when these symptoms are more severe, bleeding is frequent and ovarian cysts appear at the same time, women are more likely to suffer from ovarian cysts, and the risk of malignant ovarian cancer is greater.

Menopause refers to the cessation of menstrual bleeding, i.e. amenorrhea. It refers to a normally developed girl who has regular menstruation at around 14 years old. If she is over 18 years old and has not had a menstrual period, or if she has formed a menstrual cycle but has stopped for more than three months, it can be called amenorrhea.

Menstruation is regulated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis, so ovarian cysts have a relatively large impact on menstruation. It also has a certain impact on fertility and may cause amenorrhea, but everyone's situation is different, so it cannot be generalized.
