What is the difference between chronic cervicitis and acute cervicitis

There are significant differences between chronic cervicitis and acute cervicitis in terms of causes, symptoms and complications.

In terms of etiology, chronic cervicitis is usually caused by incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis and prolonged illness. It may also be caused by continued infection by pathogens. Acute cervicitis is less common than chronic cervicitis, and often occurs in puerperal infection or infected abortion. It may also be caused by vaginal trichomoniasis, fungus, and gonorrhea infection.

In terms of symptoms, patients with chronic cervicitis generally do not have obvious discomfort symptoms. A few patients will have increased vaginal discharge, which is light yellow or purulent. Bleeding may occur occasionally after sexual intercourse or during menstruation, and the discharge may irritate the vulva and cause itching and discomfort. The main symptoms of acute cervicitis are increased leucorrhea, vaginal bleeding, and vaginal itching and burning sensations.

In terms of complications, if chronic cervicitis is not treated in time, it is easy to cause complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. If acute cervicitis is not treated in time, it may cause complications such as chronic cervicitis and cervical polyps.

In terms of treatment, chronic cervicitis is more difficult to treat because it is caused by incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis or long-term infection by pathogens. Acute cervicitis needs to be actively treated to avoid transformation into chronic cervicitis.
