Is surgery necessary for ovarian cysts?

What causes ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts have many different properties and causes. Common physiological cysts are follicles or corpus luteum formed after ovulation. Physiological cysts are very common and most of them can disappear after normal menstruation. They can be rechecked after two or three menstrual cycles. Pathological cysts cannot disappear. Whether surgery is required depends mainly on the nature of the cyst. If the cyst is solid or cystic and solid under B-ultrasound, surgery is generally required. Simple cysts that are not very large can be checked regularly and generally do not require surgery.

After discovering ovarian cysts, not all of them need surgery. This is just a finding of ultrasound examination. Some ovarian cysts are physiological, such as filtration cysts or corpus luteum cysts, which are formed during the absorption process of follicle development and corpus luteum after ovulation. This type of ovarian cyst is mostly unilateral, with a diameter of less than 5 cm and thin walls.

Generally speaking, it can shrink naturally. After two to three months of follow-up, the cyst can disappear on its own after the menstruation is clean, and often no special treatment is required. However, if the cyst continues to grow after three months of follow-up, pathological cysts should be considered, such as ovarian tumors, and surgical treatment should be considered. The most common ovarian pathological cysts are benign ovarian tumors, ovarian endometriosis tumors, etc., but pathological cysts should be treated surgically.
