How harmful is ectopic pregnancy to women?

Whether it is conservative treatment or surgical treatment, ectopic pregnancy will have certain hazards, mainly manifested in the following three points:

1. There is a risk of another ectopic pregnancy. Women who have had an ectopic pregnancy may still have an ectopic pregnancy during their second pregnancy. The main reason is that the retained fallopian tube on the affected side may be narrowed or adhered due to surgical scars, or adhesions due to previous fallopian tube inflammation, and these factors continue to exist after surgery. Or the contralateral fallopian tube may also affect its normal function due to adhesions or chronic pelvic inflammation, so it is easy to have another ectopic pregnancy or infertility.

2. Pelvic and abdominal adhesions. Most patients with ectopic pregnancy have had a miscarriage or rupture of the fallopian tube before treatment, leading to internal bleeding. A small amount of pelvic blood accumulation after surgery, bleeding during surgery or conservative treatment increases the probability of pelvic and abdominal adhesions.

3. Infertility. During the ectopic pregnancy surgery, the affected fallopian tube may be removed, which will reduce the probability of pregnancy by at least half. Even if the affected fallopian tube is retained or conservatively treated for fertility, the function of the fallopian tube will not be exactly the same as that of a normal fallopian tube, and pelvic adhesions caused by bleeding will also reduce the probability of pregnancy.
