What are the complications of ovarian cysts?

Complications of ovarian cysts usually include rupture, pedicle torsion, infection, infertility, and malignant transformation.

1. Rupture:

Ovarian cysts are common benign diseases in clinical practice. If they are not treated promptly and correctly, their size will continue to increase, and the internal pressure of the ovarian cyst will be relatively high, leading to rupture.

2. Pedicle torsion:

The connection between the cyst and the ovary is relatively fragile. During strenuous activities, the pedicle may easily twist, leading to ovarian ischemia and causing physical discomfort.

3. Infection:

If the ovarian cyst bleeds or has poor drainage, it is easy for bacteria to breed and cause infection, pain, abdominal distension, etc.

4. Infertility:

Large ovarian cysts may compress the ovarian tissue or prevent the release of eggs, which may cause infertility.

5. Malignant transformation:

As the disease duration increases, cell degeneration may occur at the lesion site, causing malignant changes, but the probability is relatively small.

To prevent the disease from having a serious impact on health, patients should go to the gynecology, obstetrics and gynecology departments of regular hospitals in a timely manner. They can be treated through surgical methods such as oophorectomy on the affected side and laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy.
